Moragoda launches roadmap for betterment of Muslims

Milinda Moragoda, the UPFA mayoral candidate for Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) who launched a roadmap for the betterment of Muslim community in Colombo City yesterday pledged that he would not allow anyone to violate the rights of any ethnic or religious group living in the city.

He also pledged to create an understanding of the Muslim culture within the other communities, and to introduce facilities for the Muslims to obtain vocational training. Mr. Moragoda said he would work with Muslim religious bodies and provide more facilities to issue halal certification for various products.  He said he would get the CMC to organise monthly meetings between the Muslims, the security forces and the police in order to resolve any issues they may face with regard to defence.

The other aspects of the roadmap were Tamil language training for public servants, prayer facilities for Muslims in state institutions and financial assistance for Muslim widows.  Western Province Chief Minister Alavi Mowlana and Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapaha wee present at the launch.  Dailymirror- Yohan Perera

  1. We should welcome the effort of Moragoda as Sri Lankan Muslims. But we are talking presently to our Muslim community and their young generation in Sri Lanka to think of and to contribute for the entire communities in the country in order to build a pluralistic society.

    In this context Moragoda’s concentration should be wise than just limiting to the widows of the Muslim community to the widows in the region or widows in the country.

    Lest help Moragoda by providing research studies regarding the widows in each areas without limiting to one community.
