Sri Lanka has always expressed the strongest solidarity with the Palestinian people and has never wavered in its efforts to bring justice and due international recognition to the rights of the Palestinian people.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has made this observation, in a message issued on the occasion of the photographic exhibition organised by the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine to mark the International Day of Palestine. He has said “I was honoured to be founder President of the Sri Lanka Committee for solidarity with Palestine until I took office as prime Minister, and I would continue my efforts to assist the Palestinian people and their cause.” He has further said that it is in this spirit of solidarity that we recently gave USD 40,000 to support the education of Palestinian children

The President’s message also states “I have had the privilege of meeting with the late Yasser Arafat, the former leader of the Palestinian struggle and more recently I was pleased to see President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian National Authority, and I am happy at the initiative of the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine organising this photographic exhibition to depict the dispossession and expulsion of the Palestinian people from their home from 1948 onwards.”

In conclusion of his message, the President has wished all success to the efforts of the Sri Lanka committee for Solidarity with Palestine in their activities to build greater awareness of the Palestinian struggle among the people of Sri Lanka and strengthen the bonds of friendship between the Palestinian and Sri Lankan people.(niz).
