Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, former prime minster of Malaysia, is scheduled as the keynote speaker at the first International Business Leaders’ Forum titled ‘Emerging Sri Lanka in Rising Asia’, to be held on June 9.

The event is organised by the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Going beyond boundaries of bi-lateral interests of Sri Lanka and Malaysia, beginning with 2010, the SLMBC will organise an International Business Forum as an annual event, whereby the business leaders and policy makers will have the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and interact with prominent international figures and thus create a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas which can shape not only Sri Lanka but also regional agendas for economic development.

“In this aspect, the SLMBC is privileged to host Dr. Mahathir Mohamed as the keynote speaker at its inaugural International Business Forum and believes this would create an impetus for spearheading an interactive forum to bring out actionable ideas in steering Sri Lanka forward,” said a spokesman for the SLMBC.

The 1st International Business Leaders Forum organized by the Sri Lanka Malaysia Business Council is expected to reveal insights to Malaysia’s courageous and successful growth that could have lessons for Sri Lanka, presented by Dr. Mahathir Mohamed, widely acknowledged as the architect of Malaysia’s modernization.

A panel discussion will follow with prominent policy makers and business leaders, providing an effective platform to identify the opportunities and challenges for businesses that could shape Sri Lanka’s future, in an Asian context. The Sri Lanka – Malaysia Business Council (SLMBC) was founded on February 23, 1994 under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and has a vibrant membership of 135 companies.

The SLMBC has been actively promoting and facilitating trade and investments between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, since its inception and has the support of the Malaysian High Commission in Sri Lanka in all its activities, with the High Commissioner being the Patron Member of the Council.
