Support for jailed author grows

A FACEBOOK page has been set up campaigning for the release of a Bahrain-based author arrested in Sri Lanka.Sarah Malanie Perera, who is being investigated for possible links to Islamic extremists, has been detained in the capital Colombo without charge since March 20.

She was taken into custody under emergency laws following allegations of “anti-state” activities after it was claimed a book she published was offensive to Buddhists.The Facebook campaign urges all Muslims in Bahrain and around the world to show solidarity with Ms Perera and help build pressure on the authorities to release her.

It has already attracted nearly 500 supporters.”Sarah Malanie Perera, a Muslim convert from Buddhism who was detained in the capital Colombo (Mirihana Police Station),” says the page.

“Ms Perera printed two books entitled From Darkness to Light and Questions and Answers in Sinhalese about her conversion to Islam and the original teachings of Gautama Buddha.More…
