JHU theoretician, Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka is in the process of forming a group to oppose the devolution of power beyond the 13th amendment and has already held several rounds of talks with NFF’s Nandana group to muster their support, JHU sources said.

Champika has held a decisive discussion on the matter with one of NFF leaders, Kamal Deshapriya in Kalutara recently. JHU spokesperson Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe had also attended the meeting.

Kamal Deshapriya initially played the role of theoretician and chief organizer of the NFF when it was formed. However, he resigned from the party following a disagreement with NFF Leader Wimal Weerawansa and is now acting a separate group

supporting Nandana Gunathileka in the NFF.

Sources also said that Champika is also scheduled to meet with UNP National Organizer S.B. Dissanayake after September 18 to discuss the UNP’s stance on power devolution. Representatives from both parties have agreed to hold the discussion after SB’s birthday on September 18, as he is currently busy preparing the 10 books he plans to launch that day.
