overnment pays attention on complaints received against Police

President  Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed Inspector General of Police  Jayantha Wickramaratne to act swiftly to take necessary steps to investigate complaints made by public against the Police Department.

Minister of Media Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena addressing the Media today said that there are 170 complaints of indictment against Police.

Minister said that stern action will be taken against those police officers who are engaged in these malpractices.
Government is not trying to avoid the erroneous acts and behavior of the police. Independent investigations are being conducted over the brutal killing of two youth in Angulana and alleged assault on student in Malabe Campus of the  SLIIT.

According to the 2008 Annual report of National police Commission, Commission has received 1380 complaints against police for their various unlawful acts.

Commission has received 448 complaints against police as police has not acted to investigate the complaints made by public.

318 complaints have been received on the charges of misusing the Police power. Reports states that 177 complaints have been received accusing the police officers’ biased and partial activities.
